Spaceboy Studio is a production company focused on scripted drama and comedy.
We're funded by Screen Australia's 2023 Enterprise program, to build its growing slate of long-form projects. We're committed to telling attention-grabbing stories in accessible and entertaining ways.
Our feature film KEEP WALKING, is in accelerated development through Screen NSW's Short to Feature Fast Track, with EP Liz Watts.
Our short film VOICE ACTIVATED, about a stutterer forced to cooperate with a voice-activated car, was an official selection of the 2023 Tribeca Festival and won 12 awards at festivals across the globe. It won Best Short Film Production at the 2023 Screen Producers of Australia Awards. The short is available on YouTube via Omeleto.
In 2021 our instagram and Tik Tok series LOVE BUG, funded by Screen Australia, reached over 2.5 million views on TikTok and was nominated for an Australian Writers Guild award for best screenplay for a Web Series.
Through a Black List Initiative we produced a proof of concept short,
MY SUMMER IN THE HUMAN RESISTANCE, which premieres internationally at the 2023 Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival.
Yingna Lu
Producer
Yingna Lu is an AACTA nominated and Screen Producers Australia winning Film/TV/Digital producer whose work within screen agencies, the music industry as well as advertising has formed the backbone of her interest in commercially driven and emotionally arresting topics.
Her films have screened at Berlin, SXSW, Tribeca, BFI, Melbourne International Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival.
Yingna has worked across numerous TV and Feature projects including NEW GOLD MOUNTAIN 新金山 (SBS/All3Media), feature film CARMEN for Goalpost Pictures (TIFF 2022) and was producer of ABC’s political comedy series: THE PM'S DAUGHTER - SERIES 2 with Fremantle airing 2023.
She executive produced the short films CHICKEN (BFI 2020, Flickerfest 'Best Direction' winner 2020, 'Audience Choice' Winner for Australian Short Film Today 2020), HAPPY NEW YEAR, MS LUNA (QueerScreen Pitch Off Winner & 'Audience Choice' Winner 2023), and DANCING GIRL BALLOON MAN (Best Short and Rising Talent Award Winner - Sydney Film Festival 2023).
Steve Anthopoulos
Writer, Development Producer
Steve is a writer, development producer and co-founder of Spaceboy Studio, working in scripted drama.
His short film VOICE ACTIVATED premiered at the Sydney Film Festival, was an official selection at the Tribeca Film Festival, and has won 12 awards at film festivals around the globe including Best Short Production at the Screen Producers Australia awards.
In 2022 he wrote, directed and produced MY SUMMER IN THE HUMAN RESISTANCE,a proof of concept short made through The Black List / Hornitos ‘Take Your Shot’ initiative. It had its international premiere at the 2023 Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival.
He’s directed ads for Ausfilm, Netflix and Staples, and loves comedies that find a way to be both fun and meaningful.
Spaceboy Studio is run on Gadigal Land. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners and custodians of the lands on which we work and pay our respects to Indigenous Elders past and present. Sovereignty has never been ceded. Australia always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
